Rosacea: Symptoms and Causes
Why do I have rosacea?
If you experience redness as well as other symptoms such as blemishes, visible blood vessels, and dry, thick skin, you may be suffering from a skin condition called rosacea.
Symptoms of rosacea include redness, flushing, tightening of the skin, spots, burning or itching, and the appearance of red, broken blood vessels. Severe symptoms may include dryness, sore eyes, and skin thickening, especially around the nose. Most sufferers report a sudden onset where symptoms suddenly worsen and recur over time.
Rosacea affects women more often than men, usually in their 30s to 50s. However, symptoms can begin as early as the 20s. It is mainly seen on the nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin as well as the neck and chest, and is often confused with acne, eczema, or other skin allergies. If left untreated, symptoms will worsen, so early action is recommended. Unfortunately, there is currently no definitive cure for it, but there are treatments for improvement. However, treatments have evolved significantly in recent years, allowing rosacea sufferers to enjoy clearer, smoother, stress-free skin.
What is the cause of rosacea?
Facial redness can have various causes, including rosacea, allergies, inflammatory conditions, fever, and sunburn. Some medications may also cause facial redness as a side effect.
What is the cause of red cheeks (rosacea)?
In the case of cheeks, although having a pink color may be considered a sign of health, the reasons behind it are often the exact opposite. Red cheeks may be a sign of rosacea, which typically causes flushing reactions on a person’s cheeks and small, red bumps that look like acne. Other causes of red cheeks include medications, eczema, lupus, alcohol consumption, and even sunburn.
What is the cause of red nose (rosacea)?
In addition to rosacea, redness of the nose may appear as a result of a cold, flu, or an allergic reaction. However, the nose may also turn red due to skin and blood vessel problems. Thread or spider veins are among the most common causes of nose redness. Learn more about cotton threads.
Treatment of facial redness (rosacea treatment)
To choose the best treatment for your problem, we highly recommend a free consultation. Our dermatologist has formulated proven and patented products to be applied topically to the skin to treat redness. We can also use other products on the market to relieve your skin condition depending on the type of condition.
Medicinal peels
While glycolic acid peels are not suitable for all people who suffer from redness, they can be used in some cases to remove the dead skin cells that aggravate the condition. Your doctor will explain more about this in your consultation. Learn more about skin peeling.
Laser therapy
For patients with visible blood vessels, laser therapy can be used to shrink them. This treatment uses short pulses of light energy that only target the blood vessel and the surrounding skin is not damaged. You may experience some bruising or swelling after treatment, but this should subside within 72 hours. Our clients often see a visible reduction in unwanted redness of up to 75% with one to three treatments, with permanent results. Learn more about laser therapy.
At Irsa Skin, Hair & Beauty Clinic we have designed a wide range of treatments to help you get the skin you want from products to exfoliation, expert doctors, and the use of the latest technologies and modern laser devices in the world.
