What is fat injection?
Fat injection, also known as fat grafting, transfers fat from areas that have excess fat (the “donor site”) to another part of the body (the “recipient site”). This is mainly done to fill in areas that lack volume and also to smooth out wrinkles.
Application of fat injection in Shiraz
Fat transfer in Iran is a new and effective way to improve the appearance and shape of the body that is appealing to many people. This method uses fat extracted from areas of the body that have a lot of fat, such as the abdomen, buttocks, or thighs, and then used in other areas to add volume and shape. One of the advantages of this method is that the fat is used from the person’s own body, which leads to better absorption and more natural results. This process is widely used to improve body shape and compensate for appearance defects caused by lack of volume. However, like any other medical procedure, fat transfer is also associated with risks and complications that are best discussed with a doctor or dermatologist before deciding to undergo this procedure. In general, fat injection in Iran can be used in the following cases:
Fat injection can be used in the following cases:
- Reduction of frown lines and wrinkles on the face and hands due to aging
- Improve the shape of the cheek or chin
- Increase in breast volume
- Correction of contour irregularities after breast surgery
- Enlarging the hips
- Filling scars anywhere on the body
Excess fat is collected using liposuction from areas with relative excess fat (“donor sites”) such as the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. This causes an additional and popular advantage, which is the thinning of the donor areas. In fact, in this method, we show two arrows with one arrow.
Benefits of fat injection in Iran
Although only about 50 to 60 percent of the transferred fat survives the fat transfer process, fortunately, the remaining fat remains permanently without any risk of rejection by the body. The results are also safe and natural. Therefore, fat as a permanent filler is considered an ideal method all over the world. However, in cases such as breast prosthesis and buttock augmentation, which require fat injection in large areas to increase volume, you may need multiple sessions to achieve the desired breast or buttock size. Of course, keep in mind that our experts at Irsa Clinic do not recommend using fat for breast augmentation at all and consider breast implants to be a safer and more effective method. This is discussed in detail in the article “Breast Augmentation with Fat Grafting or Implants“.
How to treat with fat grafting method
If only a small amount of fat needs to be transferred, this procedure can be performed under local anesthesia on the same day of surgery. For larger volumes of fat transfer, general anesthesia and an overnight hospital stay may be recommended for patients.
To facilitate fat collection through liposuction, the donor site is injected with a mixture of fluid, painkillers, and other medications to reduce pain and bleeding during the fat collection process. Fats are suctioned using suction probes through small incisions that are carefully placed to be as hidden as possible. Then the collected fat is purified and injected into the desired parts of the body using a needle or probe through small incisions.
What do we expect after fat injection surgery?
The wounds resulting from this procedure are usually small and require minimal dressing. In some cases, a dressing or bandage may be placed over the transplanted area to protect it and maximize fat retention. Depending on the amount of fat transferred, some pain, bruising, and swelling can be expected. In general, there is generally little recovery time with this procedure.
To optimize fat retention, you should avoid excessive pressure on the fat injection area during the recovery period, as well as vigorous activities or excessive exercise. Part of the transferred fat is absorbed over time and the final results are usually seen after 6 months. If you have chosen the fat injection method to increase the volume, you may need several fat injection sessions, several months apart, to reach your desired size.
Side effects of fat injection
Fortunately, if fat injection is performed by an experienced specialist in a sterilized and hygienic environment, it will not have significant side effects. In general, some of these items are:
- Adverse reaction to anesthesia
- Hematoma or seroma (accumulation of blood or fluid under the skin that may need to be removed)
- Infection
- Changes in your sensation at the injection site
- Scar
- Allergic reactions
- Damage to underlying tissues
- Adverse results that may require additional measures
The issue of risks as well as possible side effects in the fat injection method are among the most important issues that are fully discussed between you and your plastic surgeon before the operation.
